Lara crosses paths with a man that she later realises has been fighting against her for longer than she ever knew. She has to face up to the mistakes in order to right the wrongs and to leave the past in the past. She'll encounter new allies and enemies, and experience a world that she could only have dreamt about it.
Allies:
Captain Jonathan Kagan / Mr Kagan
In issue #1 Jonathan Kagan (later spelt Jonathon) was once the captain of the pirate ship 'The Bonny Raider'. From Lara's earlier observations, he was a British pirate from the early sixteenth century. When Lara climbed aboard his ship, he gave her his cabin to sleep in. He was a captain of fairness, offering Lara a partnership. When Lara began to relive her time aboard the Bonny Raider, she told him how to win the battle against the rival ship 'Dora Del Sol'. He temporarily made her captain for this fight. After three hours, the battle was over, and he had become fond of her and her skills. He wanted her to stay aboard his ship but she knew that she couldn't stay. Lara had helped the pirates to gain gold and to achieve their destiny. A cloud gathered around the ship and they disappeared for good. In issue #3, with his business 'Kagan Enterprises' and in modern day, Kagan was the initial buyer for the land in which the ancient city of Gomorrah was found, however when the McFadden brothers hired Lara for her help, in which she removed the Talisman of the Sun, he backed out, believing the talisman to be gone for good. He also practised archery. In issue #4, he met up with Lara in Algeria when he tried to steal the chariot burial discovery from her. He showed his concern for Lara when she fainted, but then his group of thugs mutinied. He briefly worked with her in uncovering the remains of a warrior Queen, and when he wanted to claim the glory, Lara proved that she wasn't one to be cheated. She tied him up along with the thugs that he helped to fight back, and called the police, telling them of their location before leaving. He was briefly seen in issue #9, as the Maori tribe showed Lara that it was him who had stolen the Dream Spear. Then in issue #10, he confronted Lara with the Dream Spear, telling her that he could not have her around. The spirit of her old mentor Myles appeared to battle him but was pushed over the edge of a cliff by Kagan. In the next issue, Kagan told Lara that from the Dream Spear, he learnt that he and Lara had been fighting against each other for all of time, and it always ended with him in prison or killed. In this lifetime, Lara decided to do things differently; she knocked him out, to give him the choice to become her partner or to go to prison. In issue 12, it is shown that he chose to be her partner, and was locked in his room for the first few nights he spent at Lara's estate. He helped her to find information about Charles Carleton and went with her to his location in Antigua. When Carleton was dead, Lara asked him to promise her that he would never shoot anyone again. He agreed on the premise that she believed in him. Seen in issues #1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 and 12. |
Eduardo
Eduardo is a young boy who lives in a small village of fishermen, weavers and pottery makers. The village was once poor and pestered by mercenary tax collectors, until Lara explored El Dorado and gave José the golden Stars Amulet. It was in fact Eduardo who pointed Lara to the city of gold, as he said that he played by the gates every day, and knew that it was something special because of the crystals, sand and gold there. Seen in issue #2. |
Mr McFadden
He is the older brother of Timothy McFadden. The brothers represented a special archaeological trust and conservancy, the endowment for preservation of authentic sites, and have discovered the ancient cites of Sodom and Gomorrah. They visited Lara to ask for help in buying the land of Gomorrah, as Sodom is on public property. Seen in issue #3. |
Timothy McFadden
Timothy is the younger brother of Mr McFadden. The brothers represented a special archaeological trust and conservancy, the endowment for preservation of authentic sites, and have discovered the ancient cites of Sodom and Gomorrah. They visited Lara to ask for help in buying the land of Gomorrah, as Sodom is on public property. With her help of removing the Talisman of the Sun, a rival bidder, Mr Kagan no longer wanted the land after it was guarded by skeletons. Timothy was able to buy the land at a much cheaper price. When she returned the talisman, the skeletons disappeared. Seen in issue #3. |
Tony Alder
The UK Prime Minister, Tony Adler was in the same class as Lara at Chesterfield Private Academy. Whilst at a school reunion, he informed her about the passing of their old history teacher, Mr Bohannon, and after she had battled with a knight during a real life flash back, he invited her back to 10 Downing Street. As he toured her around his home, the ghostly apparition of Winston Churchill appeared and gave Lara the task of finding the Dream Spear, which had been stolen from the British Museum after it was on loan from New Zealand. Lara has a soft spot for Tony. Seen in issues #5 and 6. |
Akio
Akio persuaded the counsel of elders of the Maori tribe to allow Lara Croft to enter the dreaming underworld, by winning through combat, as well as helping her get a moko, a mark of the dreaming. He took her through into the dreaming world, led her to find her destiny weapon and helped her to overcome Kagan, who had stolen the Dream Spear. In the last issue of Journeys, Akio appeared to Lara when she visited the grave of her mentor Myles. He told her that he will always hear her call for him in her dreams. Mentioned in issue 8#, and seen in issues #9, 10, 11 and 12. |
Myles
(1934 - 1989) Myles was Lara's mentor before he was killed by a man named Charles Carleton in 1989. When Lara saw him again, he was trapped in the Dreaming Underworld in New Zealand, and kept with a group of men in black robes. Lara stopped Akio, a member of the Maori tribe and her guard in the underworld, from attacking him. He was searching for the Dream Spear himself in order to return back to life on Earth. In issue 10, Lara revealed that Myles was her mentor and that he had died in her arms after he was attacked. From then after, she felt bad because however much she tried to find Carleton, she couldn't. Myles forgave her, saying that he didn't have the time when he was living to tell her where he liked to reside. When Lara went to the Dwelling Springs to find her destiny weapon, she was confronted by Jonathan Kagan with the Dream Spear. Myles appeared to help her fight him but he was pushed off the edge of a cliff. Akio told her that as he was already dead, he wouldn't die again, and all things were not what they seemed. At the end of issue 11, Myles told Lara a bit of information as his last request. As mentioned in issues #7, #10 and #12, he had given her his gun. She told him that “it shoots better than hers”, which were always off by three inches. When Lara was at Carleton's estate, she pointed the gun at the man but dropped it when a henchman shot at her. However, the gun went off and killed Carleton. Akio later told Lara that Myles had used his own knowledge of Maori magic to stay within the small bit of moko that remained on Lara. He was then able to seek his revenge by making the gun fire at his killer, without Lara having to break her promise to him. Seen in issues #7, 9, 10, 11 and 12. |
Artefacts:
Stars Amulet
It was found in El Dorado, in Peru, and was one of three amulets found hanging on a golden wall, the other two being the Moon and Earth amulets. Lara took the Moon and Stars amulets, and after reading an inscription that warned of a lava trap, she left the Earth Amulet. The Moon Amulet stayed with Lara and she gave the Stars one to José to make his village rich. In appearance it is a golden disc with six green gems on the front, ranging in sizes with one of them symbolising a star, and it hung from a golden chain. Seen in issue #2. |
Moon Amulet
It was found in El Dorado, in Peru, and was one of three amulets found hanging on a golden wall, the other two being the Stars and Earth amulets. Lara took the Moon and Stars amulets, and after reading an inscription that warned of a lava trap, she left the earth amulet. The Moon Amulet stayed with Lara and she gave the Stars one to José to make his village rich. In appearance it was a silver disc with six green gems on the front, ranging in sizes, and hung from a silver chain. Seen in issue #2. |
Earth Amulet
It was found in El Dorado, Peru, and was one of three amulets found hanging on a golden wall, the other two being the Stars and Moon amulets. An inscription on the wall warned that the Earth amulet was to be left for El Dorado for eternity, and removing it would unleash a lava trap. Lara and José took the other two and left the Earth one, however it was a group of mercenary tax collectors who picked it up. Lava erupted from the walls of El Dorado and melted the gold inside, including the amulet, and killed the men. In appearance it was a golden disc with six green gems on the front, ranging in sizes with one of them symbolising the Earth, and hung from a golden chain. Seen in issue #2. |
Talisman of the Sun
This artefact was found inside a tomb in the ancient city of Gomorrah. Lara took it out of the city to help the McFadden brothers purchase the land from rival bidder Mr Kagan. When she removed it from where it was hung in a chamber, skeletons rose from their tombs in protest. They couldn't leave the hallowed grounds of their entombment, however. After the purchase of the land, she threw it back inside the fenced area and the skeletons crumbled to dust. It is a circular disc with a large hole in the centre, and six points protruding from the outer edge, three on top and three on bottom. Seen in issue #3. |
Buried Chariot of a Female Warrior
Not exactly an artefact but Lara hoped to find the burial of an ancient female warrior. The first party that had come across it had only seen one of the golden wheels sticking out of the ground. It was Lara and Mr Kagan who dug to uncover the rest of the chariot, as well as the remains of the female warrior it belonged to. The items in the grave included a shield, sword, dagger, several vases and the armour that the warrior wore. The shield had been engraved after her death as a marker; the inscription read: "Here rests the body of a great warrior queen, killed in battle while saving our lands from hordes of barbarians. May she continue to fight in golden fields, in Elysium, forever." Even though Kagan wanted to find it for money and then later tried to steal the glory from her, it was Lara's name that was reported by newspapers as having found it, with the help of Mr Kagan. Seen in issue #4. |
King Arthur’s Crown
It is a golden crown, encrusted with red jewels, discovered by Lara Croft. She sent it to her old history teacher Mr Bohannon of Chesterfield Private Academy, as she once wrote a paper about the King Arthur legend. He described it as "inadequate" and she later agreed. She said that her attitude toward him back then was lacking in respect and that she hoped the crown would make up for it. In present day at a school Class of ’92 reunion, a knight appeared to battle Lara, telling her that she was the one who claimed the treasure and must fight him. Originally it was protected by King Arthur himself. When the fight was over, he told Lara that when the crown passed to a new owner by the previous one, he would manifest according to the dying owner's final wish. Seen in issue #5. |
Dream Spear
It was the Prime Minister Tony Alder and ex-Prime Minister Winston Churchill who gave Lara Croft the mission to find the Dream Spear. The spear was given to the British Museum as a loan from New Zealand, to be shown in an exhibition, however it was stolen. In issue 9, Lara visited the Maori Tribe in New Zealand to tell them that she would find the spear and give it back to New Zealand. If the spear was not returned, the one in possession could raise the dead and destroy the balance between the Dreaming Underworld and reality. Anyone who had the spear, their body would completely disappeared from the waking world. It was shown to Lara that Jonathan Kagan had taken it. In issue 11, Lara fought with Kagan and reclaimed the spear for New Zealand. In issue 12, when Lara was beginning to fade from the underworld, Akio gave her the spear to take back to the waking world. In appearance, it is a silver spearhead on the end of a long, wooden pole. Mentioned in issues #7 and 9, and seen in issues #10, 11 and 12. |
Baddies:
Stan Woodroof
He is a gunslinger, and the man Lara wanted some information from about the Maori Tribe. He wouldn't give her any information unless she won a duel against him. When she did, he told her about the secret tribe who used to own the dream-spear. He told her about their contact Akio, and how she could find him. Seen in issue #7. |
Charles Carleton
(? - 2003) Carleton was a billionaire, British Intelligence, a spy and possibly a double agent. He had lived in Antigua. In issue #11, Lara learnt that Carleton was the man who killed her friend and mentor, Myles. In issue #12, she and Jonathan Kagan travelled to Antigua to fulfil Myles' vengeance. Lara met him at the Ambassador's estate and headed back to Carleton's estate to see his collection of artefacts. When he spoke about a certain artefact that he had killed a man for, Lara pulled out Myles' gun. He recognised who it had belonged to and was saved when his gunman fired at Lara. She dropped the gun but it fired on its own, killing Carleton. Lara later learnt from Akio that Myles had stayed within a small bit of moko that remained on her skin, and had stayed long enough to seek his revenge. Seen in issue #12. |
Enemies:
Skeletons
When Lara removed the Talisman of the Sun from its resting place in the ancient city of Gomorrah, the skeletons came back to life to defend. Lara knew that they were unable to leave the hallowed ground that they were entombed in, so defeating them was as simple as throwing the artefact back into its resting place, causing the skeletons to disappear. Seen in issue #3. |
Mercenaries
These guys were hired by Kagan to help him uncover sites of value with lost treasure. They later turned on him and held him at gunpoint to dig at the site of the buried chariot of a female warrior. Lara was able to outsmart them and tied them up, leaving them waiting for the police to arrive. Seen in issue #4. |
Knight
The knight manifests itself for eternity to protect the crown of King Arthur. Whenever it is given to someone new by its current owner, he appears according to the dying owner's final wish. In appearance, the knight is heavily armoured and fights with a sword. After Lara had given the Crown to her old history teacher, Mr Bohannon, his dying wish was to see Lara as “the cheerful sweet girl” that he remembered. During a class reunion, he appeared in a hall to fight Lara. She won the battle and learnt of the reason behind his appearance as well as gained possession of the crown. Seen in issue #5. |
Watcher - Dream World Dragon
Lara encountered a dragon whilst going through a dream time. She feels that it sees everything and nothing at once, and that its thoughts are free, yet it is bound to beneath the mountain. It tells her that those who choose to visit on their own free will can leave freely, but those who choose to stay will die unless they give it what it desires. It wanted a diamond from her but as she had given it to the ferryman in order to reach the cave, she had nothing to give it .The dragon became angry and she killed it to protect herself. Seen in issue #8. |
Minions of the Dream Spear
These flying creatures found out and attacked Lara, Akio and Myles as they travelled through the underworld. When Akio commanded that they had fought them enough, they disappeared, leaving a stream of mist in the air. He also noticed that the ground was moist where they fell, which meant that they were newly created minions from the blood of the Dream Spear. Jonathan Kagan was using the spear to send out Dreaming Forces against them. Seen in issue #10. |

Mr Bohannon
(? - 2002) Mr Bohannon used to teach history at Chesterfield Private Academy. Lara, in his class, had once written a paper about the King Arthur legend. He had marked it as inadequate. She later realised that he was correct, but after he had marked down her paper, she lacked respect for him. She felt bad for this in her adult life and sent him the crown of King Arthur to make up for her actions, as seen in the one-off Top Cow comic 1/2 issue. Lara remembered how he was angry at her in class for her low grades and poor attitude, and she remembered how she spoke rather nastily to him. She later sent him a parcel and a note; the parcel being King Arthur's crown and she apologised for her lack of respect, adding that she hoped that the crown would make up for it. In 2002, when Lara attended the school reunion, she was told by Tony Alder, the Prime Minister, that he had passed away a month before. It was at the reunion that a knight appeared and wanted to fight Lara. After the battle, Lara found out that the knight protected the crown and fulfilled the dying owner's final wish. Bar Keeper
Whilst visiting Australia, Lara stopped off at a saloon to ask for information about Stan Woodroof. When Stan's mercenaries arrived, the bar was shot to pieces, so Lara gave him one of her guns as collateral for the damage whilst she called on her attorney to pay for it. He later returned it to her when she was outsmarting Woodroof in a duel. Seen in issue #7. |
Kevin
Kevin is a lumberjack in Australia. He knew of Stan Woodroof and planned to act as a middleman for Lara to get in contact with him. However, when he received a note to meet Stan, Lara followed him. Dream World Lion
At first Lara questioned the intention of the lion's presence and realised that as it cannot be predicted, it is fear. She noted that the lion leaves the past in its wake, walking toward the future, one step at a time, making prints against the land. Those prints remain behind and cannot be changed. She realised the meaning of this and mounted the lion, using it to carry her about. She left it behind when she came across the ferryman. Seen in issue #8. |
Dream World Ferryman
The Ferryman waited for Lara to appear, and when she told him that she had nothing to give him, he told her that this knowledge was a start. Akio, one of the tribesmen, aided Lara through the underworld. Seen in issue #9. |
