January 5th - The first SEAT advertisement, featuring Lara Croft, was aired on French television. It was a minute long, though segments of it was shown to feature individual cars, and showcased four SEAT vehicles - Cordoba, Arosa, Ibiza and Alhambra. It was created by the company 'Gallegari-Berville and the CGI sequences were made by 'Ex Machina. A second advert was later seen, showing Lara at a beach when a player decided to play a game featuring herself. She uses a SEAT Ibiza to rush to the videogame scene.
January 18th - Eidos Interactive made a deal with Flatland 3D, giving fans tools to create their own 3D web pages based on Tomb Raider. March 4th - 'Tomb Raider 3: The Adventures of Lara Croft’ released to Japan on PlayStation and PC. [Source] March - The third SEAT advertisement, featuring Lara Croft, was aired on French television. The venue was made to look like a rusty shipyard. A replica of Lara’s Norton Streetfighter bike was suspended from the ceiling. Food served was beans on toast and Shanghai Duck. There was a giant mosaic on the floor of Lara wearing a halo, and there were also various projections on the walls of the Tomb Raider games. On the Saturday there was a Lara look-a-like competition where contestants had to dress like her, answer questions and shoot at balloons. Two winners were selected and each given a Lara statue. May - Pepsi sponsored the film 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider’, promoting the film on their packaging as well as on a TV advert. March 21st - Jill De Jong was announced as the new live model of Lara Croft, replacing Lucy Clarkson.
April 26th - Nell McAndrew’s Lara Croft outfit was donated by Eidos Interactive and auctioned off on eBay.co.uk to raise money for the charity UNICEF. The lot comprised of the UK size 12 green rubber all-in-one vest, UK size 10 brown shorts, twin Smith and Wesson automatic replica pistols, leather holsters, Cutler and Gross sunglasses and a certificate of authenticity sign by Ian Livingstone, Nell McAndrew, Jeremy Heath-Smith and Rose Nelson (UNICEF Fundraising Manager). The auction ran for 10 days until May 6th, and was won by ‘Paulus38’ (real name Paul Lai), who paid £4,400. 69 bidders took part in the auction.
