Story
A long time ago, an evil magician called Madame Paveaux used her dark magic to rise to power in the underworld of New Orleans. The underworld was filled with fear, and with the aid of a good, powerful magician, a mob broke into her mansion, burnt it down and killed her. Her body was thrown over a nearby cliff. However they weren't safe from her magic as one of her apprentices had survived. He performed an ancient rite by her broken body to capture her soul into a sacred container. He then began his search to find a suitable body and the proper spells to bring her back to life.
In 2001, Lara visits an old friend called Jane in the Museum of Antiquities in New York. They were looking at a powerful sword that Jane had found in a shipwreck off the coast of Florida, USA. However, shortly afterwards, the sword was stolen. Lara manages to chase the thieves outside where she encounters the Bokor for the first time. Whilst trying to stop him from leaving with the sword, he wounds her with it and claims that she will be the chosen one before flying off in his helicopter. Lara returns to Jane, who tells her that the men must have been from the Cult of the Dark Queen. She also says that whoever has been cut by the sword can be used as a vessel for the spirit of their Queen. She tells her to find their lair and defeat their leader. She gives her the name and location of Pino Lamor, an old shaman. The Bokor goes off to find the remaining objects needed to transfer Madame Paveaux's soul into Lara's body. Down in the subway, Lara finds Pino Lamor and he tells her that he has discovered warehouses belonging to the Bokor. He helps Lara onto a train which will take her down to the harbour and to the warehouses. Hoping to save herself from the ritual, Lara immediately sets off after the cult to get her hands on the sword. She manages to track down the Bokor in his lair and defeat him. She then breaks the sword into two, preventing the evil magician from ever being resurrecting. She then takes back one piece to go back on display in the Museum of Antiquities in New York. |
