Tomb Raider Level Editor

The Tomb Raider Level Editor (or shortened to TRLE) is a program used to create playable levels. Builders create a set of rooms in the level editor, connect them via doors, place objects such as architecture and plants and characters and enemies, and even Lara. You can then place bulbs for lighting and fog effects, as well as alter the entire atmosphere of the room. The process sounds relatively simple but to be successful at it, it can take months of learning, practise and patience.

In this section, we provide a somewhat brief run down of the history, list the various types of editor, show the websites dedicated to supporting the TRLE community and list the programs that you can use if you want to get started in building.

If building and playing fan levels isn't your thing but you wish to watch others play through levels, you can find many on Youtube, just by searching 'TRLE' or head over to Twitch. The platform recently created a Tomb Raider Level Editor category, however you may find that streamers still use the TR4 category.
