LOCATION: (Start of Game) (FMV) Temple of Light, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(A notebook opens up.)
Lara: According to Aztec myth, the region we call the Yucatan is an ancient battleground where the human followers of Totec, the Guardian of Light, once waged a catastrophic war against the demonic forces of Xolotl, the Keeper of Darkness. (A page turns over.) It is written that Xolotl called upon the power of an artefact known as the Mirror of Smoke to summon forth a horde of unspeakable horrors from the Abyss. (Another page turns.) Totec’s warriors were slaughtered in the battle that followed but Totec himself survived. He found a way to turn the Mirror’s power back against the evil god. Xolotl was imprisoned within the mirror and the descendants of Totec went on to forge a mighty empire that lasted until the arrival of the conquistadors. (Another page turns in the notebook.) As for what happened to the Mirror of Smoke, the ancient texts are vague. Some say it was hidden in a secret place... That the mirror was lost forever... But if there’s one thing I’ve learned... It’s that nothing is lost forever.

(The page turns over to two photographs on the page. The camera zooms into the bottom one, showing Lara Croft stood in front of a pedestal with the mirror on top of it.) And here it is. After weeks of hiking through the treacherous Central American jungle, I finally found the Mirror of Smoke. It isn’t much to look at. But that’s something else I’ve learned... appearances can be deceiving. (The camera pans out of the still image, showing four men- one leader and three men with guns pointed at Lara.) Apparently these guys know it too. Meet Vasco, the local warlord. Vasco’s been after the mirror for years... but he couldn’t find it. Not without my help, anyway. (The scene shows Vasco hold the mirror whilst his men hold back Lara.) I guess Vasco doesn’t read much, either. He doesn’t seem to know about the curse, or maybe he just doesn’t believe it. (Xolotl and his minions rises out of the pedestal, killing Vasco and his men. A statue of man bursts into a light, and a warrior stands in its place.)
Totec: Xolotl! Face me! (The camera pans out to see Lara ready to fight, and Xolotl looking back at Totec.)
Xolotl: You are not worthy, Totec. (Totec prepares his spear.)
Totec: Have you forgotten the last time we met in battle? (Camera pans in to Xolotl, who is holding the Mirror of Smoke.)
Xolotl: A new day has dawned. And soon... night will fall on this world for the last time! (Totec throws his spear at the evil god, which Lara narrowly dodges, but Xolotl has already disappeared through a door that closed behind him. Totec and Lara speak.)
Totec: You know not the darkness you have unleashed. Xolotl will drown this world in blood.
Lara: No need to be dramatic. Surely there’s a way to set this right. (Camera shows a side view of Lara and Totec talking.)
Totec: Xolotl must be imprisoned within the mirror and returned to this place before the light of dawn. It is the only way to stop him. (Scene shows Totec trying to lever open the door with his Spear of Light.) Stand back. This is no job for a woman. (Camera pans out to show Lara picking up a bomb.)
Lara: Perhaps you should stand back. Unless you want to singe that pretty skirt of yours. (Camera changes to behind Lara.) Step away from that door or this bomb is going to hurt more than your pride.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Lara picks up a bomb from the floor.)
Lara: This is my kind of magic. Just put it down and get out of the way. (She hands it to Totec who looks at it.)

LOCATION: (In Game) Temple of Light, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec [or Lara in single player], bomb the locks on the gate.)
Lara: Well, that’s sorted. Now let’s go find your ugly friend.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Single Player)

(Lara and Totec walk into a large room. On a higher level is Xolotl.)
Xolotl: Two thousand years in this prison. Now I will bathe in your blood! (He runs off.)
Totec: If you continue to pursue Xolotl, he will kill you like the rest.
Lara: Well, I’ll just have to take my chances.
Xolotl: You are being foolish! If you must continue, take this for your journey. (He hands over his Spear of Light.) It was forged by the gods and holds great powers.
Lara: A bit old fashioned, but I’m sure I can find some use for it. (Totec runs off.)
Totec: I wish you good fortune.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec walk into a large room. On a higher level is Xolotl.)
Xolotl: Two thousand years in this prison. Now I will bathe in your blood! (He runs off.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Single Player)

(Lara enters a closed in room with a large fire trap in the centre. The fires begin to burst out of the rotating centre.)
Lara: You have to be kidding me.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec enter a closed in room with a large fire trap in the centre. The fires begin to burst out of the rotating centre.)
Lara: You have to be kidding me.
Totec: This is Xolotl’s trap!

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Lara and Xolotl [in multiplayer] run into another area.)
Xolotl: Hmmm... an impressive specimen. You will serve me well. (Evil laugh)
Lara: Don’t hold your breath...
Xolotl: Then I will make a robe of that fine pale skin.
Lara: We’ll see about that.
Xolotl: (Evil laugh) (Xolotl runs off.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(A monster bursts through the wall.)
Lara: Oh my word.

LOCATION: (In Game) Temple Grounds, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

Lara: One of my old maps charts this area. I think I can make up ground by travelling down through the spider’s tomb.

LOCATION: (FMV) Temple Grounds, Central America (Single Player)

(Vasco’s men are fighting Xolotl’s minions. There is a voice over from Lara.)
Lara: Vasco’s men are dead... slaughtered by those creatures.

LOCATION: (FMV) Temple Grounds, Central America (Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec emerge outside of the temple. There are the bodies of dead men scattered around.)
Lara: Vasco’s men are dead... slaughtered by those creatures.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Temple of Light, Central America (Multiplayer)

(Lara picks up a rifle from a dead body. She hands it to Totec.)
Lara: I think it’s time we upgraded your equipment. (He takes it and she shows him how to use it.) Warfare has changed in the last two thousand years. You have a lot of catching up to do. (The camera pans out to show hordes of Xolotl’s minions approaching. It then shows Lara and Totec using the rifles against the minions.) Luckily for me, you’re a fast learner.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Summoning, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Xolotl and his minions are summoning a T-Rex from stone.)
Xolotl: If you will not serve me in life, then you will serve me in death. (He runs off. The T-Rex soon animates to life.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Summoning, Central America (Single Player)

(Lara defeats the T-Rex. Totec runs towards her.)
Lara: Totec. You missed all the action.
Totec: Xolotl has almost reached his stronghold. We will never defeat him once he is within its walls.
Lara: Then we’ll have to stop him before he gets there. If I head through the western temple, I may be able to cut him off.
Totec: I will follow into the north. Be wary; Xolotl is known to lay traps for his enemies. (Lara runs off to the west.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Summoning, Central America (Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec defeat the T-Rex.)
Lara: Well that was certainly unexpected.
Totec: Xolotl has almost reached his stronghold. We will never defeat him once he is within its walls.
Lara: Then we’ll have to stop him before he gets there. If we head through the western temple, we may be able to cut him off.
Totec: Be wary; Xolotl is known to lay traps for his enemies. (The pair run off to get to the temple.)

LOCATION: (In Game) The Toxic Swamp, Central America (Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec see any toxic pods on the ground.)
Totec: These lands are poisoned by the mirror.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Toxic Swamp, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec cross a bridge, and Xolotl is stood in front of them on a stone structure.)
Xolotl: Behold! This land rots as the mirror grows stronger. Now this world will know my revenge. (He disappears in a flash of light.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Toxic Swamp, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Xolotl is stood on a button.)
Xolotl: You will soon see the darkness this mirror has shown me. (He walks through a gate that closes behind him.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Flooded Passage, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Lara [and Totec in multiplayer] run towards a room. Xolotl is there.)
Xolotl: I will be waiting. (He walks through a gate that closes behind him.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Flooded Passage, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Lara runs into a room where Xolotl is waiting.)
Xolotl: These waters will run red with your blood. Behold my power! (He summons a creature and runs off laughing. A large creature stomps onto the path behind Lara. It lets out a mighty roar.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Fiery Depths, Central America (Single Player)

(Lara and Totec run into a large room with broken pathways, fire bursting out of the wall and lava below.)
Lara: Molten lava. You ancient gods certainly have a flare for the dramatic.
Totec: Time is running short. The mirror grows stronger and stronger as dawn approaches.
Lara: Then let’s keep moving.
Totec: You are a brave woman. Strange but brave. I cannot ask you to go further. The path ahead is certain death. I do not wish to see you harmed.
Lara: I can handle myself. The only thing you need to worry about is keeping up.
Totec: (Points) You follow Xolotl down this path and I will try to get ahead of him. Do what you can to slow his progress.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Fiery Depths, Central America (Multiplayer)

(Lara and Totec run into a large room with broken pathways, fire bursting out of the wall and lava below.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Mirror’s Wake, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Xolotl is stood in a doorway, looking around.)
Xolotl: Is this not beautiful? This is the world I have known in the last two thousand years. My prison has become my kingdom, and soon it will be your grave. (The door shuts behind him as he begins to walk off.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Mirror’s Wake, Central America (Single Player)

(Lara and Totec watch as Xolotl walks towards his stronghold.)
Lara: This is Xolotl’s Stronghold? Not quite what I expected. (Xolotl stops.)
Xolotl: You are too late Totec. Behold, the sun rises upon us. This world will crumble at my feet and you will be the first to die. (He summons his creatures and laughs as he runs off. They turn around to see fiery T-rexs.)
Totec: I will hold them back. You stop Xolotl.
Lara: You can’t stop them on your own.
Xolotl: It is our only hope. Now go! (Lara runs off after Xolotl.)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) The Mirror’s Wake, Central America (Multiplayer)

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Xolotl’s Stronghold, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Xolotl and Lara [and Totec in multiplayer] are ready to do battle.)
Xolotl: I will enjoy watching you struggle before you die. (He adds a pulse of electricity to the ground.)

LOCATION: (Cut Scene) Xolotl’s Stronghold, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Xolotl adds electricity to the spinning spike trap.)
Xolotl: I am through playing games.

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Xolotl’s Stronghold, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Xolotl is mostly defeated but runs off to find safety.)
Xolotl: You will not stop me. (He runs toward a doorway.) This world will be consumed by my power!

LOCATION: (Cut scene) Xolotl’s Stronghold, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(Xolotl, still not defeated, is stood on a stone ledge with fire waterfalls behind him.)
Xolotl: The age of darkness is almost upon us. (He jumps out of view.)

LOCATION: (FMV) Xolotl’s Stronghold, Central America (Single Player & Multiplayer)

(It is in the form of a comic strip. Lara and Totec have defeated Xolotl, who is led on the ground weak.)
Xolotl: How... can this be?!
Lara: Looks like you’re out of luck.
Xolotl: Noooo! (He disappears.)
Totec: Hurry! We must get the Mirror back to its shrine before the first light of dawn. (The pair run off to the Temple of Light. He points to the pedestal.) Quickly! Replace the mirror!
Lara: What about you?
Totec: I must remain and protect our age of light. It is my destiny. Now return the mirror! (Lara does so and a bright light blinds Lara and Totec is returned back to stone. Lara stands by him.)
Lara: Take care, Totec. (She leaves the temple.) The mirror has been returned to its secret place, and Xolotl to his eternal prison. When I’m gone, this place will be lost again... but for how long? If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all my travels... it’s that nothing is lost forever... but some things should never be found.
