Expedition Modes
Expedition Modes are new challenges to the franchise. Whether you play the Score Attack or the Remnant Resistance modes, you will always have the chance to use 'Expedition Cards'. These are a set of conditions to make gameplay easier or harder, change outfits or add weapons. Interestingly, the DLCs (Endurance, Cold Darkness Awakened, Blood Ties/Lara's Nightmares) can be found in the Expedition Mode menu.
Remnant Resistance
Help the Remnant fight to take back the valley!
Create and play missions, either created by you or your friends or the Tomb Raider community. The aim is to complete missions to earn the most XP. Time and weather will affect the enemies and animals and if you choose to play on the Hardcore difficulty, all objectives must be completed without dying, When you create a mission, you can choose the objectives, the weapon loadouts and the expedition cards that other players will have to use in the mission. The harder it is, the more credits players can earn. When you play a mission, there are five objectives to complete, of which you will complete each one individually before moving onto the next. The amount of ammo and resources that you collect and end that mission with, will carry over into the next one. You are awarded more XP for being stealthy and for not taking any damage. |
Score Attack
This Expedition Mode gives the player the chance to replay chapters in the game but with the addition of Challenge Cards and challenges. Finish the level quickly for a time bonus. Chain scores together to build the combo meter. Increasing the difficulty will give you an increased score. Killing enemies earn +350 points per kill whilst taking damage will take off 350 points. If you remember where the collectibles were throughout the main campaign, you can pick up these items (relics, documents, survival caches, murals and monoliths) again for additional points. At the end of the level, you will be presented with a score screen, showing which challenges you completed and your final score.

Chapter Replay
Replay earlier chapters of the story. You can add challenges and Challenge Cards. You can even replay the Baba Yaga missions if you own the DLC.
|
Chapter Replay Elite
Replay earlier chapters of the story with your upgraded skills and equipment. You can add challenges and Challenge Cards.

Endurance
A true test of survival! Lara is dropped in the middle of the Siberian Wilderness, on her hunt for treasures and artefacts and it is your responsibility to keep her warm and fed. To increase your overall score, you need to find crypts and ruins, collect treasures and stay alive for as many days possible. The longer the 'run', the harder the enemies will become, starting with a few wolves and later, hordes of the Deathless Ones and stronger animals. To make it easier (or more difficult), you can add Challenge Cards to change your starter weapons, add skills to Lara, reduce enemy health or even add cosmetic changes such as Big Head Lara and Enemies.

Cold Darkness Awakened
In this mode, Lara heads into an old Soviet Research Base to try and destroy the source of a dangerous chemical weapon that has mutated men, a chemical that was supposed to make a super soldier but has instead weakened their sight but strengthened their hearing. Your goal is to listen and follow Nadia's instructions when you reach a tower, picking the correct switch/valves to shut it down. Your overall score will be based on your time of completion, kills, prisoners saved, documents collected and following the correct directions. The score can be increased by completing certain challenges. Also, the player can add Challenge Cards to alter gameplay or weapons.

Blood Ties
Based in Croft Manor, Blood Ties has Lara searching her ancestral home for proof that she has the right to keep the estate. She uncovers many memories of her parents and even the butler, Winston. For players, there are plenty of easter eggs that relate to the Tomb Raider franchise.
The only aim of this mode is to play through and discover the fate of the manor. |
Lara's Nightmare
As the name suggests, one of Lara's nightmares is going against her maternal uncle, Atlas De Mornay, for the rights to Croft Manor, but along the way, she has to battle some familiar foes.
In the mode, players have to find three Skulls of Rage in order to summon the boss battle in the main hall of the manor. The skulls randomly appear in any of the rooms so each playthrough will vary. Your final score is based on the time it takes to complete a playthough, the amount of enemies killed, damage that Lara has received, number of deaths, the difficulty chosen, as well as the cards chosen to play with. |
