Lara and her friends try to live a normal life after the events in Ukraine, however a friend who was believed to be dead has been brought to Lara’s attention and she decides to rescue him. To make matters worse, Sam is showing signs that Himiko has affected her more than she lets on.
Allies:
Samantha Nishimura
In issue 13, Sam was followed by a member of the bandit group 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan'. She fought him and went to see Lara at the British Museum. Lara had also been followed by a member of the group, but was left a video tape, showing the group holding Angus Grimaldi captive. They wanted $5 million dollars in exchange. Sam gave Lara the idea of going to Mexico under the cover of searching for the mythological creature Chupacabra, but secretly they would go to rescue Grim. In issue 15, Sam watched as a local told them about the chupacabra. When they came away, she tried to ask an older woman about filming the ritual she was doing, but the woman snapped at her, causing her to faint. Later that evening, Sam couldn't recall talking to the woman but could smell something on her clothes. When she asked about heading to the waterfall to find Las Serpientes Que Caminan, she was told that she wasn't going, and she then became angry at Lara, telling her that she was controlling. In issue 17, Sam killed her first human, after she and her friends were held captive by guards. After she had done so, she had no memory of doing it. When they returned back to their boat, nicknamed 'Alice', she looked in the mirror and saw the reflection of Himiko looking back at her. In issue 18, Sam was arrested for assault, and was currently in H.M Prison Holloway until Lara could raise her bail. |
Kaz Weiss
In issue 13, Kaz was now living with Jonah Maiava. When Lara and Sam visited her with a video tape that was left, she informed them that it belonged to a group called 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan' and that they operated in the Lacandon Jungle, in Mexico. In issue 14, Kaz accompanied Lara, Sam and Jonah to Peru. In issue 15, when asked about her smoking, Kaz told Lara that she restarted it a few weeks earlier due to almost being killed. |
Jonah Maiava
In issue #13, Jonah was seen working at a restaurant. He also lived with Kaz Weiss. In the same issue, he was left a box at work, which held Angus Grimaldi's cap. He showed it to Lara, who had learnt that he was being held captive by a group called 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan'. In issue #14, Jonah accompanied Lara, Sam and Kaz to Peru. It is revealed that Jonah doesn't like flying. |
Baddies:
Leticia Cortez
First seen in issue #15, Leticia was the Serpent Queen of the group 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan'. When Lara Croft was captured and taken to her, Leticia told her that she knew her father and had become fond of him, until he left. She first saw him when she, along with other people, was protesting the proposed draining of some jungle swamplands. They were chained to a digger, and had camped out in front of the machines for three days. Then Richard Croft joined them with a bit of paper and made the workers leave. He told Leticia that he needed a local guide and she offered to take him to the ruins in the swamplands. She said that at first thought, she thought that he was a rich tourist who had read "too much Jules Verne" but he turned out to be "pretty capable for a Brit". When he spoke of his daughter, she could tell that he was proud of her. Then one day, he decided to leave, and she knew that she would never see him again. She called herself a realist. |
Enemies:
Las Serpientes Que Caminan
First seen in issue #13, and through to issue #17. The bandit group operates in the Lacandon Jungle, in Mexico, and their leader is a woman called 'The Serpent Queen'. In 2015, three hooded thugs followed Lara Croft, Sam Nishimura and Jonah Maiava in London. Jonah was left a box whilst Lara was left a video tape. She watched it with Sam, and saw Angus Grimaldi being pushed into view. He had a cloth around his mouth and his wrists tied behind his back. A woman, also with a cloth around her mouth, leaned into view, telling Lara that if she ever wants to see Grim again, she had to pay $5 million dollars to them. It was Sam who came up with the idea of going to Mexico, under the cover of searching for the mythological creature Chupacabra, but secretly to rescue Grim. In issue #14, they sent an envoy to watch Lara Croft, but they were tricked when Sam brought in two body doubles. They baited the envoy to believe that they were in one black van when actually they were following the black van with the doubles. In issue #15, a local woman told Lara that they operated a couple of kilometres beyond the Old Crystal Falls. At the end of the comic, a woman was shown watching Lara after she had rescued a little girl called Mari. In issue #16, Lara was captured and taken to the Serpent Queen Leticia Cortez. Lara refused to pay the ransom, and was thrown into a pit inside a hut, where the old man was held. When Lara called out to Grim, the man looked at her and told her that he was not him. |

Richard Croft

Mr DeMornay
Known to TR fans as Atlas DeMornay. In 2015, Lara approached him, asking to take control of the Croft estate. She needed the family funds to rescue Angus Grimaldi, who had been captured by a Mexican bandit group called 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan'. Her uncle had heard of her exploits and refused to hand it over without her seeking professional help first, and even then he may only consider handing it over to her. |
Lily
Seen in issue #14, Lily was brought in by Sam Nishimura as a double for Lara Croft when she and Lara went to Peru to rescue Angus Grimaldi from 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan'. Sam knew Lily from her acting class, and commented that though she was uncanny to Lara, her hair would need to be dyed and she'd need some contact lens and maybe some heels. Julia was hired as Sam's double. |
Julia
Seen in issue #14, Julia was brought in by Sam Nishimura as a double for herself when she and Lara Croft went to Peru to rescue Angus Grimaldi from the Las Serpientes Que Caminan. Lily was hired as Lara's double. |
Arturo
Arturo was seen in issue #14. He was the driver of the boat that he called 'Alice', and preferred to be called Art. When Sam Nishimura fell into the sea, he jumped in with Lara Croft to rescue her. However a bull shark bit his leg, and Lara and her friends took him to a hospital. He allowed them to keep Alice, as long as he got her back in one piece. |
Mari
Seen in issues #15 and #16. Mari was a little girl from Mexico who had gone missing when she and her mother were out picking rare monkey face orchids in the jungle at Old Crystal Falls. Scared for her life, her mother had tried talking to the authorities, who weren't interested, and 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan', who she had been able to talk to. She then hung a toy from a tree in the jungle to ask the spirits to bless her daughter. When Lara Croft headed out to the jungle to look for Las Serpientes Que Caminan, she found Mari down a deep pit, and helped her through a cavern and back out onto land. Later on, she woke Lara up when she was dreaming and asked about a man she had mentioned called Angus Grimaldi. After seeing a photo of him, she told her that she had seen him being taken away, and drew her a map of the place he had been taken to. Lara then took her back home to her village. |
Hector
Seen in issue #16. He is one of the Serpent Queen's henchmen, belonging to the group 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan'. He is one of the two men who captured Lara in the jungle, took her to the Serpent Queen Leticia Cortez, and then took Lara to a small hut where an old man, supposedly Angus Grimaldi, was imprisoned. The other man was Felix. |
Felix
Seen in issue #16. He is one of the Serpent Queen's henchmen, belonging to the group ‘Las Serpientes Que Caminan’. He is one of the two men who captured Lara Croft in the jungle, took her to the Serpent Queen Leticia Cortez, and then took Lara to a small hut where an old man, supposedly Angus Grimaldi, was imprisoned. Cuddy Grimaldi
Fully seen in issues #17 and #18, Cuddy was the identical twin to Angus Grimadi, better known as Grim, and had a sister called Morag. He fell out with his brother when their mother was ill and Grim couldn't cope. Their mother died soon after. When Morag told him that his brother had died, he went to take care of Grim's boat, 'The Bonny Betty', and his two cats Tattie and Neeps. Cuddy called himself "the sensible one" whilst Angus was "the risk taker". He recalled that they were close when they were young, and had watched many Humphrey Bogart movies as kids. On a whim, he decided to take to the waters, realising that he had been missing out. Members of 'Las Serpientes Que Caminan' picked him up off the coast, and as Angus' paperwork was still on board, they believed that they had him. He had put on Grim's cardigan whilst on board, and when footage of his capture was sent to Lara Croft, she recognised the cardigan and also believed it was Grim. Cuddy was an accountant. Lara helped him to escape the pit they were thrown in, and he helped her create a distraction to help her rescue her friends. He set 'The Bonny Betty' alight to do so. In issue #18, Lara had gotten Cuddy a job at the British Museum. |
Morag Grimaldi
Seen in issue #17, Morag was the sister of Angus and Cuddy Grimaldi. It was her that Lara Croft called to tell her that Grim had died, and that his body was unlikely to be found. Morag seemed unsurprised of his passing, saying that it was bound to happen someday. She then took care of funeral arrangements. |
