Inferno
A prequel to the game 'Tomb Raider (2013)', this short story tells of how the crewmates of the Endurance come together for their journey to find Yamatai.
Allies:
Conrad Roth
The captain of the ship 'Endurance'. Following Lara's research, they were going to find the island of Yamatai, and he set about hiring a crew to help sail. |
Angus Grim
Dr James Whitman interviewed Grim with Roth. The pair reminisce about their adventure in Somalia, when after a firefight, they were imprisoned. Grim had managed to hide a razor blade, which they used to escape. |
Jonah Maiava
While in New Zealand, Conrad Roth encountered Jonah dockside carrying four crates of seafood at once. Impressed by his strength (and later his cooking), Roth offered him a place on the Endurance. |
Joslin Reyes
A former cop for the NYPD who now worked at her brother's garage. Whilst Whitman interviewed Roth and Grim, smoke appeared from the boiler room, and Roth managed to get Joslin Reyes on board to fix it. As she set to work, Whitman went to interview her too. She spoke about her police partner and how he was killed on the job. She mentioned how the killer had gotten away with it and how she couldn't take it. She left the police force, moved in with her sister Una and worked at her brother's garage. She added that she had met Roth in a bar; he was drunk and was refusing to leave, so she thumped him. When he came round, he offered her a job. She offered back up muscle for Roth on some of his less respectable deals. |
Alex Weiss
When Alex joined the Endurance crew, he said that he needed sanctuary as he had hacked into certain government databases. He said that he'd work for free if he was allowed to stay. Roth agreed to let him stay as well as give him pay. Alex tried to make some extra money for funding through hacking gambling sites, however that plan didn't work. |
Dr James Whitman
Whilst in his dressing room, Whitman had a visit from his agent, who told him that the network had commissioned a third season of his show, and they looked at the files of the crew of the Endurance. They went down to the ship and interviewed various members of the crew. He later received a call from his agent, Thomas Goldman, who told him that the figures for season two were poor, and that the network was pulling the funding for season three. Whitman decided that he'd have to fund the adventure himself, but with his wife, Sheila, selling his belongings, he didn't have enough money. Goldman gave him some pieces that the London museum had sent them for season three and told him that he didn't want to know what he did with them. Whitman went to see Mr Hong, who wanted to take the three artefacts with him for further examination. But when Whitman tried to prevent it from happening, he was beaten up and saved by Jonah Maiava, who was sent by Roth. The Endurance crew chipped in to help fund the expedition. |
Samantha Nishimura
With more money needed, Lara asked her friend, Sam, whether her uncle could provide the money for them. He agreed with the condition that Sam joined the expedition, and she became the new camera person. |
Other Characters:
Una Reyes
Sister of Joslin Reyes, she looked after her sister's daughter, Alisha, when she was away and working. |
Alisha Reyes
The daughter of Joslin Reyes and Conrad Roth. Whilst her mother was away, Alisha stayed with her aunt Una, Joslin's sister. It is suggested that Alisha had met Lara before the Endurance trip had happened. |
Sheila
Sheila was the wife of James Whitman. She was referred to in the 'Tomb Raider (2013)' in-game document 'Don't Leave Me', written by Whitman. She was seen in 'Tomb Raider: The Beginning' tidying his antiques. According to James, Sheila had been with him since he was nothing, however she had filled out divorce papers and took most of his belongings. |
Shelby
Shelby appeared on the very first page of the comic, as Dr James Whitman's hairdresser. |
Thomas Goldman
Tom was James Whitman's agent. When looking through the files of the Endurance crewmembers, he wasn't impressed with them. He told Whitman about the ratings of the second season of 'Whitman's World', and that the network wouldn't fund a third season. When James decided to invest his own money in the project, Thomas tried to help by giving him pieces sent from the London museum. He told him that he didn't want to know what he planned to do with them though. |
Mr Hong
Mr Hong was the buyer who was arranged by Fergus to meet James Whitman to buy three small Chinese statues sent from the London Museum- gods of good fortune, prosperity and longevity, Fu, Lu and Shou. Meeting in a warehouse, he wanted to take the pieces back with him to examine their authenticity but Whitman didn't want this. James got in a fight with Mr Hong's henchman Cheng and some other men. The pieces were broken during the fight. |
Cheng
He was a henchman of Mr Hong's, and was at the warehouse when Whitman wanted to sell three Chinese statues to Mr Hong. When James disagreed with Mr Hong taking the pieces back with him to check their authenticity, Cheng was ordered to beat up Dr Whitman. It is revealed that Cheng really likes Whitman's show. |
Fergus
Fergus was an acquaintance to Dr James Whitman, and when he planned to sell some pieces that were sent from the London museum to fund a third season of 'Whitman's World', he set him up with a fast buyer called Mr Hong. |
