Gianni Bartoli
The father of Marcano, Gianni had found the Seraph - the piece needed to unlock a door in a Tibetan monastery that hides the Talion, which in turn, opens a door to the fabled Dagger of Xian in China. When the Tibetan monks learnt of this, they bombed his ship, the Maria Doria, and when he died, the Seraph was safe once more. An early story described Gianni as a magician. This made it into the game in the form of a poster in the 'Opera House'. It is almost exactly like the poster of Harry Houdini. The Opera House was where Gianni would perform magic shows. Marco Bartoli
Marco's father, Gianni, left him when he was a young boy, but before he left, he told him that he had been "beckoned by something greater than impulse". Marco believed that his father's death was the pathway for him to acquire the Seraph for himself, so when he was older, he set off to find it. In 1997, Marco went in search of the wreck of the Maria Doria, the cruise liner transporting his father, as he knew that he had found the Seraph. Marco believed that he was "the one" destined to find the Dagger of Xian. Even though Lara Croft managed to open the door to the Dagger first, Marco used it and transformed himself into a dragon. His success didn't last long as Lara defeated the dragon and ultimately killed Marco, taking the dagger to be safely hidden away in her home. FIRST APPEARANCE: Cutscene after 'Opera House' |
Brother Chen Barkhang
Brother Chen Barkhang dedicated his life to the Barkhang Monastery in Tibet. In 1997, Marco's goons kidnapped him and questioned him for where in the monastery they should look for the doorway that hides the Talion. Brother Chen was rescued by Lara, where he told her some history of the monastery's work. They once took down Marco's father - Gianni - and the cruise liner, the Maria Doria, when he had recovered the Seraph, a piece that had been stolen centuries ago by vagabonds. However Marco had been listening in from a platform above and he shot Chen in the chest. FIRST APPEARANCE: Cutscene after 'Diving Area' VOICED BY: Simon Greenall |
