Tidbits

  1. Early gaming magazines feature Core Design discussing the possibility of Tomb Raider 5 being set solely on one island to explain Lara's survival after the pyramid collapses in Tomb Raider 4. Lara was to be captured by a billionaire and used as bait whilst she tries to escape the island.
  2. In the 'Streets of Rome' level, there are several pick-ups (Garden Keys, Saturn Symbol, Venus Symbol, Mercury Symbol, Jupiter Symbol). These all make up the mandala from Johann Daniel Mylius' 1618 'Opus medico-chymicum' and The Azoth Ritual.
  3. Tomb Raider Chronicles is the first game where stealth has been included; Lara can attack men (Certain enemy) with a Crowbar or put them to sleep with chloroform.
  4. Lara's Camo Ski Suit ~ in the main cutscenes and in renders- Lara has a black belt but in game it is white. Also the holsters appear to just stay attached to her thighs somehow.
  5. Lara's Camo Ski Suit ~ Generally Lara has full finger black gloves but when she takes out her guns, they swap to fingerless with the hole on the top.
  6. Russia Level Set- Last FMV- When we see Lara's pod surfacing in the water, she is wearing the black catsuit, however from the levels just played, she was wearing the Camouflage Ski Suit
  7. Young Lara ~ she doesn't wear any gloves however when she holds a stake, she wears one glove.
  8. On the back of Pierre DuPont's jacket, the image has changed from a naked woman to that of an eagle in flight.
  9. When looking at the audio files for the Russia and Ireland and when entering the level skip cheat codes for these levels, one may notice that they are named ‘Joby’ and ‘Andy’. These are names of the level set creators: Andy Sandham and Joby Wood.
  10. Jean Yves was going to be one of the characters reminiscing about Lara, however due to the resemblances to the real archaeologist Jean Yves and the possible law suit, he was changed to Charles Kane. Jean Yves can be seen in beta FMVs and in fact, if you watch the Russia cutscene with Lara coming to the surface in an air pod slowly enough, for just one frame, Charles Kane will flicker into Jean Yves.
  11. According to issue 126 of the official PlayStation magazine which announced the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the total sales of Tomb Raider Chronicles on all formats is approximately 1.5 million copies worldwide.
  12. Featured in the Rome levels is the sculpture ‘The Mouth of Truth’. The story is that you can stick your hand into the mouth; if you are a liar, your fingers will be bitten off.
  13. In the Russia levels, the word ‘Cannister’ (Nitrogen, Oxygen) is spelt wrong. However the developers spelt it right in the previous game. The correct spelling is ‘Canister’.
  14. In the level ‘Red Alert’, there is a ceiling door that is supposed to open (near the end of the level, where the enemies rappel down from the ceiling). Sometimes it doesn’t open. Thankfully, there is no collision on these doors so the player can climb straight through them.
  15. Lara’s in game model contain 500 polygons.
  16. Tomb Raider Chronicles had 13 levels in total and 36 secrets to find.
  17. In the cutscene where Lara is escaping from Pierre and Larson at the opera, Lara emerges from a back door to find a scooter. On the wall, there are two movie posters, one is ‘Casablanca’ and the other is ‘Rebecca’.
  18. In the PlayStation version of the game, Lara will leave footprints as she runs but this doesn't show in either the PC or the Sega Dreamcast versions.
  19. In the Dreamcast version of the game, Lara has a more human shaped shadow that does in fact change size depending on where the light source is in that particular room.
  20. In the opening FMV for the VCI level set, Lara uses a desert eagle to shoot open the vent on the wall, however the only gun Lara uses in the following levels is the HK Gun.
  21. Tomb Raider Chronicles is the first game that Winston actually speaks.
  22. This is the first game where we see Larson and Pierre together.
  23. The news reporter on the TV in the car in the beginning FMV is voiced by Martin Iveson.
  24. The music that the opera singer sings to is called 'Voi Che Sapete', from Mozart's 'Marriage of Figaro'.
