Tidbits

  1. In the Angel of Darkness's Prima Strategy guide, Luddick's surname is Rennick.
  2. Other planned areas in this game were a scrap yard in Paris, Castle Kriegler in Germany and a police station in Paris, where the game would have started. Germany would have come after Paris and before Prague. Cappadocia in Turkey would have been the next location in the sequel.
  3. Kurtis Trent was going to play a big role in Angel of Darkness and its sequels. He was even going to have his own spin off games, but due to time issues, he lacked proper implementation. He was going to have supernatural power moves, the player was planned to be able to use the Chirugai as a weapon and extra conversations.
  4. Beta screenshots released before the actual game release show Lara in the Sanitorium. Was Lara going to be the playable character in these levels?
  5. If the player explores the game data location on their computer, they are able to find hidden secrets about what the game could have contained. A text document features some hidden conversations and all spoken and written text in game.
  6. In the cutscene where Eckhardt kills Luddick, Lara is wearing her shorts outfit, but before and after the cutscene, Lara is clearly in trousers. The same thing happens with Lara and her sunglasses.
  7. Using an external program called 'Tomb Raider AOD Setup Configuration Utility' (TRAODSCU), written by Tomb Raider fan Simulation, you are able to access beta areas in the Parisian Back Streets level. The player is also able to access a training level, in which the developers placed all items from the game- including unused items. Using a few cheats will allow Lara to have all weapons- including the dual Vectors that Lara was supposed to have. Editing the CHR files - character files with an external program will add the sunglasses on Lara's models for in-game. Hidden animations and sound files can also be found.
  8. Tomb Raider AOD is the only game to not have secrets. Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the Lara Croft spin offs don't contain secrets like earlier Tomb Raider games but do contain optional collectables.
  9. AOD's PS2 save screens show the beta health bar in the top left corner.
  10. In the 'Parisian Ghetto' there is a secret area that can only be accessed by using the AOD SCU on PC. It was, in beta, a different area to explore, but was cut from final release, though it is still there.
  11. The guards in Le Serpent Rouge can be heard shouting in Czech, and not French as you would think.
  12. In the Backstreets of Paris, right at the beginning there is a sign that reads, in English' "Martin Meallet, manufacturer of pewter counters..." The designers made a mistake as they wrote "Maison princip" but the word 'princip' does not exist in French. It is most likely 'principe'.
  13. The 'Europe2' posters that you see spattered around town in Paris are a reference to a French network of FM radio stations. They play rock and pop music.
  14. If you hold the walk button whilst pulling or pushing an object, Lara will perform the classic animations.
  15. The two paintings in Margot Carvier's apartment are 'Liberty Leading the People' by Eugène Delacroix (1830) and 'Napoleon Crossing the Alps' by Jacques-Louis David (1801-1805).
  16. Look closely at the Mona Lisa painting in the Louvre. It has Peter Connelly’s face. In Meagan Marie’s ’20 Years of Tomb Raider’, he recites the story “During downtime at Core, we used to photoshop staff photos for fun”. The Mona Lisa image is “of me waking up after a heavy night out. The same shot was used in multiple places but Tom Scutt, the AI programmer on Tomb Raider, blended it nicely, so well that at first glance, it can look real... Andrea Cordella was working with one of the Louvre levels. When I told him about the photoshopped one of me, and he asked me to send it. When he saw it, he laughed and said “This is going in the game”. Fame at last”.
  17. If the player heads into St Aicard’s Church, they will see a yellow fight promoting poster. This poster has the names of Rich Morton Vs Andrea Cordella on Sat 20th June, Al Davis Vs Darth Hopkins and Sim Furniss Vs Andy Watt on Wednesday 20th November.
  18. In a beta loading screen, the bit of paper that Werner Von Croy gives Lara is shown. It shows that Mme Carvier lived at 105 Rue Alphonse.
  19. If you look closely at the background of the Farsee pickups in Kurtis’ levels, you will see that it has the pattern of Kurtis’ t-shirt.
  20. In 2016, Murti Schofield described to fans the origins of the symbol of the Lux Veritatis. He says “it’s an “L” and “V” combination with an early Knights Templar Christian topping. Since “originally the Lux Veritatis was an inner order of the KT, which hints at the lineage of our own KT, Kurtis Trent.”
  21. According to issue 126 of the official Playstation magazine which announced the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the total sales of AOD on all formats is approximately 2.5 million copies worldwide.
  22. Lara’s in game model contained 5000 polygons.
  23. AOD is made up of 34 levels.
  24. This game is one of three games to not include the secrets feature. The others are Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
  25. Richard Morton mentioned a feature that was planned for the game; Lara could drop a GPS marker in the level and this would act as a respawn point if she was to die. It also had to be placed in a safe location; otherwise if enemies were to find the GPS marker, they could destroy it.
  26. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that the mysterious box that Lara collects in the Le Serpent Rouge is a reference to the ending of Pulp Fiction.
  27. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that Arnoud, the man in the sick room at Bouchard's hideout was originally planned to be a contact for Kurtis Trent as he was also seeking Louis Bouchard for information.
  28. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that Pluie Noir is a reference for a Michael Douglas film ‘Black Rain’, however the subtitles for the game writes the word as ‘Pluit Noir’.
  29. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that Lara was originally planned to swap and trade items with people on the streets of Paris.
  30. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that he had planned for Lara Croft to walk in Paris and find Kurtis Trent (again after seeing him in the Cafe Metro) walking away from a person whom he had beaten to get information from.
  31. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that an Obscura painting features a restrained Eckhardt.
  32. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that Madam Carvier was planned to have something Nephilim related (a statue or picture) in her office.
  33. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Murti Schofield said that the cleaner is called Emmett Brough, an American. His working name is Pinkerton. He used to work as a cleaner for Hell's Angels, as part of their Enforcer unit. He came into contact with Konstantin Heistrum, Kurtis' father and fought against him, but he fled to Europe and eventually started working for the Agency, under Marten Gunderson.
  34. In the Tomb Raider: Dark Angel stream on 16th February 2018, Ash Kaprielov, owner of ‘Tomb-of-Ash.com’, said that the cats seen pictured in Von Croy’s apartment are called Peefer and Squidge; they belonged to the AOD artist Andy Gibson.
  35. If the player uses the fly cheat and enters the Rennes Pawn Shop whilst he is alive and then fly past him to go into the back room, they can find Renne's corpse in the back room.
  36. In the 25th anniversary livestream for AOD in July, it was confirmed that the FMVs (Full Motion Video) for the game were outsourced to a company in France. Apart from a storyline to work with, the company had free reins with other details. An example of this is the Lourve scene involving Lara and Kurtis. It was never planned by Murti Schofield for Kurtis to get so hands on whilst disarming Lara, nor was the ‘almost kiss’. Surprisingly, the company had informed Kurtis’ mo-cap actor, Anthony Royer, that he was Lara’s boyfriend.
  37. As confirmed by Anthony Royer, Lara’s mo-cap actor is Anne Le Chartier.
