Characters
Amelia Croft
Lady Amelia was the Countess of Abbingdon and the wife of Lord Richard Croft. In 1977, whilst on a private plane with her daughter, Lara Croft, there was turbulent weather which caused one of the engines to catch alight. The pilot panicked and forced an emergency landing, however the plane crashed in the mountains of Nepal. Amelia and her daughter, who was only 9 years old, survived and looked around for fire wood. Whilst trying to set up a small camp, Lara had uncovered a dais with a sword in it. She touched it, causing it to activate and when her mother found her, she pulled her away from it and began speaking to the voices she heard coming from the portal. After hearing an order to take out the sword, she grabbed it, causing her to disappear through the portal. FIRST APPEARANCE: Opening FMV VOICED BY: Eve Karpff |
Winston
Winston’s family has been with the Crofts for generations, and he has been the family butler since he was honorably discharged from the military in his late-twenties; just as his father before him. He moved into Croft Manor to stay as the only live-in staff when his wife died, before Lara was born. He tends to all Lara’s household needs, going far beyond the duties of a traditional butler given Lara’s unusual lifestyle and pursuits, but he has never disappointed her. His loyalty to Lara, her parents, and Croft Manor is beyond question. FIRST APPEARANCE: FMV after the first level 'Bolivia' VOICED BY: Alan Shearman Information from the official 'Tomb Raider: Legend' Website
Winston is Lara’s butler, and he has served the Crofts for most of his life. He’s calm, sophisticated, unflappable, and knows more about Lara and her doings than anyone. He worries about her but he knows how capable she is, and he does nothing to dissuade her from her life’s pursuit, and indeed he’s just as willing to fetch 9mm ammunition as he is to set out tea service, and he will even toss a few spare ammo clips into her bag without her asking. |
Zip
Zip is Lara’s right hand man and tech expert. Always in contact with Lara via her headset, he is able to instantly provide her with a wealth of information by accessing various electric reference resources and other online knowledge databases. In his spare time, he tinkers around with electronics, developing new technology that might provide useful to Ms. Croft in the field. In addition to being savvy purveyor of all things “geeky”, Zip is also a distinguished chef, and has worked in some of the best kitchens in northern Europe. FIRST APPEARANCE: FMV after the first level 'Bolivia', but heard in opening FMV VOICED BY: Alex Desert Information from the official 'Tomb Raider: Legend' Website
Zip is the tech guy of Lara’s team, responsible for providing technical and logistical support for Lara’s endeavors worldwide - he’s the guy in the van or the server room at Lara’s Mansion, and Lara’s constant remote companion via radio headset. A wisecracking guy who’s part ultra-techno-geek and part street savvy. He used to be over the top, but a few years in prison toned him down a notch and increased his resentment towards all things establishment. A former computer hacker, he works with Lara for the challenge and the thrill of it. He’s personally loyal to Lara, and it really is the most fun he can have without getting arrested. |
Alister Fletcher
Alister Fletcher is Lara’s research assistant and a repository for fantastic array of detailed historical information. He confines his researches to libraries and museums, however, concentrating on understanding and explaining what has already been found, as opposed to Lara’s search for new artifacts. He’s a 15th-year doctoral student at Oxford and hasn’t received his doctorate because his belief that everything is connected to everything else makes it impossible for him to draw the boundaries required to finish his dissertation. FIRST APPEARANCE: FMV after the first level 'Bolivia', but heard in opening FMV VOICED BY: Greg Ellis Information from the official 'Tomb Raider: Legend' Website
Alister is Lara’s research assistant, providing another mind filled with arcane historical information, someone to bounce ideas off of, and provide quick additional research, while Lara’s in the field. He’s in this to test his theories, uncover secrets no one else can, and because it’s the only place his eccentric knowledge is useful. Alister is tense and prickly, and takes himself much too seriously. |
Amanda Evert
Amanda Evert was one of Lara Croft’s best friends at university. While she was a promising cultural anthropologist, she has a love of metaphysics and a fascination with mysticism that, in Lara’s opinion, interfered with her ability to be an effective scientist. Amanda dreamed of rediscovering mystical knowledge from the past, knowledge that the scientific age not only lost sight of but actively drove out of the world. She hoped to then teach these forgotten truths to others so they could gain spiritual enlightenment. But her career, wherever it was headed, was cut short by a terrible, unexplained event in Peru, where her body remains with a dozen others in a collapsed tomb. FIRST APPEARANCE: FMV at the end of 'Bolivia' VOICED BY: Kath Soucie Information from the official 'Tomb Raider: Legend' Website
On the outside, Amanda Evert was a graduate student of social anthropology; on the inside, she was an intense chronicler of the metaphysical. She believed wholeheartedly that the common notion of reality is nothing but a thin, drab layer pulled over the infinite truth of the soul. She studied every religious and mystical system in the world, past and present, and while still at university was already something of an expert on theology and mysticism. She had a pet theory that fragments of a single, long forgotten mystical belief system exist within the rites and rituals of shamanism, witchcraft and many religions. Her dream was to rediscover this supreme knowledge from the past and teach it to people so they could gain spiritual enlightenment. At the time it seemed more like a youthful dalliance than a true obsession; something Lara considered harmless. She was undoubtedly comfortable with exploring beyond the boundaries of scientific inquiry, but she was also a brilliant researcher who was still in touch with the modern world. She was young, a bit bookish, not too self-confident, and a bit of a hippy. Her relationship with Lara is typified by playful philosophical banter; they disagreed, but they crossed intellectual swords without becoming exasperated or angry at the others’ firm viewpoint. Then one day in Peru, while excavating a tomb Lara believed contained the last queen of Tiwanaku, her team of graduate students breeched a new room and all hell broke loose. Lara was the only one to return to the surface, where the team’s structural engineer, Anaya Imanu, listened in horror to Lara’s story of how a malevolent entity of some kind slaughtered everyone in the tomb, except for Lara and Amanda. But as the two tried to escape, Amanda set off a trap that sealed the room, brought down the roof, and she drowned. |
James Rutland Jr
The Rutland name has been attached to politicians and CEOs for decades – an American aristocracy – so James William Rutland Jr. grew up in a bubble of enormous wealth and privilege. He went to West Point and managed to graduate on his own merits, barely, and it gave him a sense of self-discipline and strength that he finds useful now that he’s free of the military. Except for his time at West Point, he has never known scarcity refusal. He is an energetic man who plays hard and has never been lazy in that regard, though he works hard only in pursuit of his desires. FIRST APPEARANCE: FMV at the end of 'Bolivia' VOICED BY: Rino Romano Information from the official 'Tomb Raider: Legend' Website

He’s a charismatic man accustomed to getting whatever he wants; however, this time the object of his desire is also sought by Lara Croft. |

Toru Nishimura
Toru Nishimura is a wealthy media magnate who owns a half-dozen television stations and newspapers throughout Southern Japan. His rise to this position was rapid, and he still enjoys acting like the journalist he once was, so his days aren’t completely filled with corporate concerns. One investigation led to a corrupt cabinet minister, a priceless silver statuette and a young archaeologist who saved his life when the artifact turned out to be much more than it appeared. Lara Croft and he became fiends after the incident, and they help each other whenever needed. FIRST APPEARANCE: A FMV in the level 'Japan' VOICED BY: Paul Nakauchi Information from the official 'Tomb Raider: Legend' Website
Toru Nishimura was once a daring investigative reporter who has crossed paths with Lara more than once on dangerous investigations. He’s now a wealthy media mogul, good-humored and comfortable, but he still has a taste for adventure and risk, and he is always glad to see Lara whenever her latest adventure brings her to town. He’s a little more cautious now, though - he’s got responsibilities and obligations, some of them a bit unsavory - and as such, he needs to have good relations with the Japanese mafia. |
Shogo Takamoto
Shogo Takamoto was a rising star in the Japanese mob for years and now is a Yakuza Kumicho (boss). He has a love of ancient weapons, and he became a fixture in the upscale black market, frustrating collectors and adventurers alike with his mixing of forgeries with authentic rare items, using the strength of the Yakuza to protect himself from cheated buyers. A confrontation with Lara Croft over some forged items, however, led to a loss of face so extreme that he was forced to withdraw from the antiquities underground. Why he did not kill her remains a mystery within the Yakuza, because the idea of him being unable to kill her is beyond belief. FIRST APPEARANCE: A FMV in the level 'Japan' VOICED BY: Michael Hagiwara Information from the official 'Tomb Raider: Legend' Website
Shogo Takamoto is a Yakuza Kumicho (boss) who loves ancient weapons. In addition to being a powerful figure in the Japanese mob, he also became a fixture in the antiquities underground, frustrating collectors and adventurers alike by mixing forgeries with authentic items. Despite his untrustworthy reputation, he continues to be a player due to his ability to ferret out what people really want and dangle it before them, such that their desires overpower their better judgment. His most recent encounter with Lara left a very bad taste in his mouth, but he has been unwilling to risk seeking revenge, because the likely failure of the attempt would mean an enormous loss of face. |
Peter Eddington
Only mentioned at the end of the game, Eddington was an old friend of Richard Croft who works at the Cavendish Laboratory in the Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge. Lara told Zip to arrange a meeting with him for her. FIRST APPEARANCE: Not seen but mentioned in the final FMV of the game |
