Tidbits

  1. When the Peru level is opened in a 3D modelling software, two figures of Lara can be seen under the ground in the Peru Flashback just after being chased but the entity. It is the Angel of Darkness Lara model that Crystal was given to help design a new Lara. It could be a reference to letting the past be buried and moving on with the new but developers have never confirmed this.
  2. The outfit that Lara wears in Kazakhstan is Winter Blue, which will change into Winter Blue without Jacket. When Lara is on top the train, Lara is wearing her backpack on top of the coat. There is no strap across her chest to hold it secure. When Lara removes her coat, the strap is now there. This pattern also continues with the other Winter outfits, with the jackets not having the strap and the without jacket variants with the strap, however it doesn't feature on Lara's main outfit.
  3. The loading scene for Japan (With Lara standing on the left side of the screen) was completed by artist Joel Boucquemont.
  4. In Japan. When standing on the rooftop of Nishamora's building, there is a billboard of a young lady in some sort of advertisement. She is Daniel Cabuco's wife, Kim. Daniel contributed to the artwork for Legend and Anniversary.
  5. Gaming magazines released before Tomb Raider Legend said that one of the levels were to be set in Kuala Lumpa. This was either merged into the now Japan level or removed entirely.
  6. Early beta footage show different areas in Bolivia but were later removed.
  7. Test levels for this game during creation were called 'Church' and 'Campsite'. The Church test level can be accessed using external programs but there is nothing of value to be found as it was used for lighting testing.
  8. The main theme for Tomb Raider legend features a female voice singing a Scottish Gaelic traditional folk song named Ailein duinn ("Dark-haired Alan"). It is a lament written for a man called Ailean Moireasdan ("Alan Morrison") by his fiancée called Annag Chaimbeul ("Annie Campbell"). In 1788, Ailean, who was a sailor, set off with his ship to Scalpay, Harris , an island part of the Outer Hebrides, Scotland where he and Annag were to be married. Tragically, the ship sailed into a storm and all on board were lost. Annag was devastated and she composed this lament for her lost love. She died several months later and her body was later discovered on the beach, not far from where Ailean's body was found.
  9. Shelley Blond (Lara voice of TR1) had auditioned to voice Lara again in Tomb Raider Legend but Crystal Dynamics went with Keeley Hawes.
  10. The plaques scattered around the house that are used for the cryptic puzzles read something different to what Lara reads out. They actually show "This Cloister is Erected to the Glory of God and in Loving Memory of Ida F S Hayes 1853-1912 Daughters of the American Revolution". It might be a reference to the family of John Hayes, who was an assistant lead QA technician on 'Tomb Raider: Legend'.
  11. At the beginning of the Peru level, there is a football on the ground and some open gates just beyond it. If you kick the football into the gates, you'll hear a crowd cheering 'goal'.
  12. Inside King Arthur's tomb in the England level, there are inscriptions on the columns and along the rims of the arches that read 'Crystal Dynamics rules'. The text can appear backwards or missing some letters.
  13. In the level 'Bolivia Redux', there are crates around the arena with the words 'Natla Industries' printed on them.
  14. When pulling out her PDA in Bolivia to check to see if it is still working, it displays the inventory screen. You can clearly see the list of levels and Peru, the second level, is selected.
  15. The main theme for Tomb Raider Legend sounds very, very similar to Two Steps from Hell’s track, North Country. Troels Folmann actually worked with Two Steps from Hell, so it is plausible that he was given permission to use the track as a base for the theme. There are also some similarities between their songs and the soundtrack for Tomb Raider Underworld.
  16. The original Xbox version doesn't have the introductory cut scene because the team forgot to put the video in the final build. Rather than suffer the delay and expense of re-submitting the build, they elected to simply release the game without the intro.
  17. According to issue 126 of the official Playstation magazine which announced the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the total sales of Tomb Raider: Legend on all formats is approximately 4.5 million copies worldwide.
  18. According to issue 126 of the official Playstation magazine which announced the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the PSP version of Legend had a multiplayer mode, where two Laras would race against each other and play hide and seek.
  19. According to issue 126 of the official Playstation magazine which announced the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the England level was going to include a chase along an English motorway as Lara tried to save her kidnapped friends.
  20. Lara’s in game model contains 6292 polygons.
  21. The game comprises of 9 levels and has 115 secrets to collect.
  22. Toby Gard once said in an interview that the developers were trying to add in a Jukebox feature in Croft Manor for the Xbox original console so that players could play their own music in game. However this was never implemented.
  23. According to Morgan Gray in Meagan Marie’s book ‘20 Years of Tomb Raider’, the vehicles weren’t included in early design documents, but as development continued, the team felt that it was a bad idea to not include vehicles.
  24. In Croft Manor, Lara has skulls on the front of her wardrobe doors - these could be a reference to the belt buckle design that Angelina Jolie wears in the first two Tomb Raider movies.
